There are a lot of great things about life in Jersey City. The parks, the shopping, the dining, and, of course, the convenient location to New York City.
With so many perks to living here, it’s easy to see why the population has been booming. As more people move into the area, we’ve started to attract the attention of some major developers—which is good news for Port Liberte residents!
The Morris Hotel
Recently, the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency approved a bid from the Landmark Developers to construct a brand new hotel—the Morris Hotel—near Communipaw Avenue, just off of Liberty State Park.
Once finished, the hotel would boast 120 rooms, a coffee shop, a restaurant, an events venue, a barbershop, a rooftop bar, and conference rooms. The architecture will be done in a modern warehouse-style, and the location boasts front-row views of the Manhattan skyline.
Landmark Developers’ president, Frank Cretella, has plans for even more expansion in Jersey City—namely a Casino-in-the-Park in Lincoln Park. Already, the Landmark Venues company owns 14 venues scattered through New Jersey and Pennsylvania, so they have plenty of experience.
The Timeline
Once construction actually gets started on the hotel, Cretella estimates that it’ll take around 18 months to finish everything up.
Unfortunately, the building isn’t very close to the construction stage. Negotiations for purchasing the land—owned by NJ Transit—are still ongoing, and some sources report that the NJ Transit system hasn’t even been contacted yet.
Since the land is in a prime Jersey City location, it could end up being hotly contested. If the plans do pan out, the Morris Hotel would be one of the biggest developments on Jersey City’s Gold Coast!
What Morris Hotel Means for Port Liberte
A brand new hotel with room for businesses would be a hot attraction for Jersey City. By driving more business to the area, local restaurants, stores, parks, and public transit would see a huge boost in funds.
For residents of Port Liberte, that’s great news. With more business comes more people, and with more people comes higher property values!
