Everyone loves a good underdog story, and this one might be the best one yet. As most locals already know, residents from the 5 boroughs banded together in December to fight for the 2016 Curbed Cup title and bragging rights for the year. (For those who aren’t familiar with this award, the Curbed Cup is an annual residents’ pick for the best neighborhood in New York City.) Well, the Curbed Cup winner has been decided: It’s Jersey City!
For the first time ever, the Curbed Cup award for the best New York City neighborhood goes to a community that’s not even in New York! Looks like we’re the 6th borough after all!
Here’s Why Jersey City is the Best Neighborhood
Jersey City is home to Port Liberte, the Newport Centre mall, a historic downtown, and a beautiful walkway along the Hudson River, not to mention plenty of shops, restaurants, and attractions. We already consider Jersey City to be the best place to live, but now we have a title that says so.
There’s Always Something New to Enjoy
In a city buzzing with development, you can find everything from a local gourmet cheese shop to a state-of-the-art health center opening its doors for the first time.
Love Boating? You’ll Love It Here
If you’re craving an afternoon out on the water, Jersey City is where you’ll find several marinas and yacht clubs, which offer the best access to the Hudson River. Boating around Jersey City is the best way to enjoy sunsets, fireworks, and the New York City skyline.
The Food is Phenomenal
Jersey City residents love the neighborhood restaurants. No matter what you’re in the mood for, you can find a menu with something you’ll enjoy. My favorite restaurants in Jersey City are Brightside Tavern, 15 Fox Place (referral only, so tell them Barbara Eden sent you!), Brownstone Diner, and Abbondanza Trattoria.
Port Liberte is a Special Part of Jersey City
Of course, we can’t talk about Jersey City without talking about Port Liberte. More of a European village than a neighborhood, Port Liberte is a gated community with its own canals, ferry service, on-site businesses, and pet-friendly amenities.
