Happy 5th Anniversary, Creature Comfort Pet Therapy!

Barbara Eden, REALTOR with therapy dog

Pets are such sweet and loving companions, aren’t they? It’s no wonder we want to make them part of our family and share their love with others. Not only do our pets help us feel good, but they also help other people feel calm and comfortable as a result of pet therapy visits.

When Joan Baer and Annie Murphy, co-founders of Creature Comfort Pet Therapy, noticed that there were more and more requests for pet therapy services, they started an organization that, since 2011, has brightened the lives of thousands of New Jersey-area residents.

A few days ago, I had the pleasure of attending Creature Comfort Pet Therapy’s annual Champagne Brunch fundraising event at Florham Park’s Brooklake Country Club. This year’s Champagne Brunch honored co-founders Joan Baer and Annie Murphy, who have worked tirelessly since forming the organization 5 years ago.

Keep up the good work!

You and Your Pet Can Become Certified

Creature Comfort Pet Therapy is based out of Morris Plains, about 30 miles northwest of Port Liberte in Jersey City. The organization has certified more than 160 pet therapy teams, which include pets of all shapes and sizes — dogs, cats, rabbits, even a pig and miniature horse.

Volunteers make about 175 to 200 visits a month, according to the organization’s website, and make visits to medical centers, nursing homes, libraries, schools, and veterans programs.

If you’ve been thinking about getting your pet certified, you can contact Creature Comfort Pet Therapy and fill out an application.
