After giving Jersey City residents a delicious preview at the Grove Street Farmers’ Market earlier this year, Van Hook Cheese & Grocery opened a storefront just last week on Jersey Avenue downtown.
That means this new specialty grocery store is just a few minutes away from Port Liberte!
It’s All in the Family for Van Hook Cheese
It’s refreshing to see more locally owned and operated businesses like this one opening stores in Jersey City. Van Hook Cheese & Grocery is a family-owned farm-to-table shop, showcasing all kinds of fresh products (including cheese and produce) from local farms near Jersey City.
Just a few of their menu items include a swiss-style cheese from Arethusa Farm in Connecticut, a feta cheese from Narragansett Creamery in Rhode Island, and the lightly aged Weybridge cheese from Jasper Hill Farm in Vermont.

Van Hook Cheese & Grocery is located at 528 Jersey Avenue in Jersey City, about 4 miles from Port Liberte. Store hours are currently 11 AM to 8 PM Tuesday through Friday, 10 AM to 8 PM on Saturday, and 10 AM to 6 PM on Sunday. (The store is closed on Mondays.)
If you are heading to the Taste of Hudson this evening, October 6th, Van Hook Cheese & Grocery will be serving samples at Harborside Atrium.
